Warrior Inspirational Academy

The Mission of Prevention and Support Services

The mission of the Prevention and Support Services Department is to provide comprehensive support to students, families, and schools in ways that strengthen the educational process and promote positive outcomes for every student. Our department focuses on key areas that impact student success, including behavior, attendance, counseling, mental health, academic recovery, and student engagement.

The Warrior Inspirational Academy serves as the alternative learning setting for Russell County Schools, providing students with a structured and supportive environment designed to address individual needs while encouraging personal growth and academic success.

Our commitment to improving outcomes for students drives us to provide and support a variety of programs and initiatives designed to help students reach their full potential. These include the Warrior Inspirational Academy, Warrior Virtual Academy, Peer Helpers, Rhythm, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

The Prevention and Support Services Department also assists students with credit recovery, college and career readiness, social-emotional learning, character development, mental health support, and other services that promote academic and personal growth.

Through collaboration with students, families, educators, and community partners, we strive to create supportive pathways that empower students to overcome challenges, build confidence, and achieve their goals.

Our goal is simple: to provide every student with the support, resources, and opportunities they need to discover their path to success.

Warrior Virtual Academy

Program Overview

Please note that the Warrior Virtual Academy (WVA) is available only to Russell County High School students in grades 9–12.

The vision of Russell County School District’s Warrior Virtual Academy is to inspire, empower, and educate learners through an engaging, student-centered, and nontraditional approach. Through a prescribed yet flexible individualized learning plan in a virtual setting, the WVA provides a challenging and engaging online educational environment designed for students who are self-motivated, responsible, and capable of working independently.

Application Periods

The Warrior Virtual Academy accepts applications only twice each school year. Applications are not accepted on a continuous or rolling basis.

  • Semester 1: Applications open approximately two weeks before the beginning of the fall semester.
  • Semester 2: Applications open approximately two weeks before the start of the holiday break preceding the spring semester.

Students and families are encouraged to monitor school communications for specific application dates. Submitting an application outside of the designated application windows does not guarantee that the application will be considered.

Application and Admission Process

Once an application is received, the WVA Committee will review the application to determine whether the program is an appropriate educational setting for the student and whether the student is a good fit for the academy.

Submission of an application does not guarantee admission to the Warrior Virtual Academy.

Students who are admitted must remain in good standing with the academy in order to continue participating throughout the school year and from one school year to the next.

Required Documentation

After completing the application, students and parents/guardians must submit the student’s most recent transcript and/or report card by email to the WVA Director, Allen Rose, at rosea@russellcsd.net.

Applications will not be reviewed until all required academic documents have been received.

We encourage students and families to carefully consider the expectations of virtual learning before applying.
