The vision of Russell County School District’s Warrior Virtual Academy is to inspire, empower, and educate learners through an engaging, student-centered, and nontraditional approach. By using a prescribed and flexible individualized learning plan in a virtual setting, the WVA can provide a challenging and engaging online educational environment for a self-motivated and independent learner.
After receiving an application, the WVA Committee will review the application to determine if this academy is best suited for the student, and the student for the academy. Completing an application does not guarantee admission to the academy. If admitted, the student must maintain good standing with the academy to continue during the year, and from year to year.
There are several requirements that students must meet in order to be considered for the WVA. Students seeking to enroll must:
-Be on track for graduation.
-Have an overall 2.0 GPA in courses taken the previous year.
-Have no expulsions, pending tribunal actions, and no more than one suspension from the previous year.
It is important that all parents and applicants review the WVA Handbook and the WVA Frequently Asked Questions. Some of the most important notes are:
-All WVA students must take tests and assessments in person at the WVA (located at 91 Poorhouse Rd, Seale).
-All students/parents must provide their own transportation when coming to take assessments.
-Students must be enrolled at Russell County High School prior to beginning the WVA.
-Students must reapply to the virtual academy each year.
-Students may be placed on academic probation and/or may be removed from the academy for poor grades.
-Attendance will be taken by the daily participation of students. Lack of participation will result in removal from the program.
After completing this application, students/parents must submit the most recent transcript and/or report card by emailing the WVA Director, Jacob Johnson, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications will not be reviewed until these documents are submitted.
