All teachers are certified and highly qualified in their subject area. The highly qualified faculty and staff at Dixie Elementary School are comprised of nine General Education teachers in Kindergarten through 6th grade. We have one full time Special Education Teacher specialized in preschool through 3rd grade, one part-time Special Education Teacher assigned to 4th through 6th grade, and a Speech Language Pathologist serving our Special Needs population and students who are considered at risk through an inclusion model. Dixie also employs a part-time Counselor who is an advocate for all students, a part-time PE Coach, and a part-time Media Specialist. This year we are fortunate to have a Reading Specialist funded through ARI. Dixie also employs an Instructional Assistant to assist students. Dixie has a small student to teacher ratio and a good discipline rate.
Dixie is progressive with its use of technology. Each classroom has a smart board, iPads, and access to the computer lab. The environment at Dixie is safe and equipped with procedures and routines to ensure the safety of the students. Dixie’s parent involvement has increased over the past year. Our success is a team effort that includes administrators, teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, staff, parents, and stakeholders. We maintain an open communication with parents and stakeholders to ensure that all efforts are utilized to help their children succeed. We encourage parents to visit, volunteer to help at school events, visit the classroom, and become active members in their child’s education. Due to the poverty that exists in the area, parent involvement can be challenging. The Dixie faculty continues to research and implement ideas to improve this situation
