About The Dixie Elementary School Library Media Center
The Dixie Elementary Library Media Center (LMC) is a very busy place. All classes visit the LMC weekly for a story-time and/or an information literacy lesson and to check out books. Individual students frequently visit the library at other times throughout the week to check out additional books and take online AR quizzes.
The LMC houses a computer lab available for student use. Classes visit the lab on a weekly basis to participate in teacher-directed technology activities.
OUR MISSION
Assist members of the DES community in becoming effective seekers and users of information, to foster a love of reading, and to build a foundation for life long learning.
In collaboration with the school’s learning community, the Library Media Program will provide support for teaching and learning by providing access to a quality collection and technologies.
Checkout Policy
Students in First & Second Grade are allowed to have one item checked out at a time. Third - Fifth graders are allowed to have two items checked out at a time. All students can keep the items for one week. Students can renew a book if they need more time, unless it is requested by another student.
Library Collection
The DES library houses approximately 6000 items for student use. Follett Destiny Library Manager, an automated circulation system, is used district-wide, which enables each RCSD library access to the library collections at all schools in the district through inter-library loans. Destiny can accessed from anywhere, 24/7, helping to strengthen the crucial bond between the library, the classroom, and home.
